  • Mattituck-Cutchogue Summer Stars, Stripes & Showtunes

Stars, Stripes & Showtunes is a Broadway-style musical theater program celebrating America’s 250th birthday through songs, scenes, and storytelling inspired by iconic American musical theater traditions. The curriculum draws thematic inspiration from well-known Broadway productions such as Annie, Hamilton, Newsies, and 1776, using age-appropriate material to explore ideas of independence, resilience, civic pride, and the American spirit. The program is structured into two daily periods: Period A (8:30–10:30 AM) focuses on song, dance, and choreography, while Period B (10:45-12:30) centers on skit writing and acting. Students are highly encouraged to enroll in both Period A and Period B to fully participate in the experience and be included in the final show production at the end of the week-long program. Students build foundational skills in acting, singing, and movement while working collaboratively in ensemble groups and learning essential stagecraft and performance etiquette. Instruction emphasizes creative expression, confidence-building, and understanding how musical theater can reflect important moments and values in American history. The program culminates in an informal, high-energy showcase for families at the end of the session, featuring a patriotic Broadway-style medley that highlights original arrangements and educational performance pieces inspired by American musical theater. This engaging enrichment experience fosters creativity, teamwork, and an appreciation for both the performing arts and America’s historical legacy.
